General Notes

CDs going to the Music library (non-circulating) rather than the Judaica Collection (yes circulating) are not assigned any barcodes. Also, they should be left in their original jewel cases, rather than being re-housed in the heavy-duty security cases. MFHD and item location would be musrec, instead of smljud. There may be other differences as well which will be added to this page as they come to our attention.

This record illustrates the use of several fields related to music material:

• field 028 (Publisher Number),
• field 047 (Form of Musical Composition Code), and
• field 048 (Number of Musical Instruments or Voices Code);

as well as some more generally used fields:

• field 045 (Time Period of Content),
• field 505 (Formatted Contents Note), and
• field 511 (Participant or Performer Note)\

• When you have a bunch of CDs like your collection, some of which could be re-released from LPs or cassettes, you could have some mono stuff and some stereo stuff; some stuff recorded electrically and other digital.  In these cases, you can use 2 007 fields.
• Re: playback for this one: you have stereo in the 300 and I assume it's on the discs, right?

245: the GMD always follows $a, n, and p and precedes all other subfields

• I don't think the person's name should be repeated in the statement of responsibility.  If it would be, the 245 would be:
• $a title $h [sound recording] : $b subtitle / $c statement of responsibility = parallel title : parallel subtitle / parallel statement of responsibility.
• But I think the 245 should be:
  • Arik Ainshtain $h [sound recording]  $b : ha-osef = Arik Einstein : the collection / $c [orekh muzikali, Yoav Kutner].
  • I'm not sure what the final phrase is, but if it appears in roman alphabet as well, then the 245 would be:
  • Arik Ainshtain $h [sound recording]  $b : ha-osef / $c [orekh muzikali, Yoav Kutner] = Arik Einstein : the collection / [parallel statement, parallel name].

246 would be

• 246 31 Arik Einstein  [without the subtitle]
• I'm not sure the other 2 246 fields are.  "Osef" is the word for "collection"?  If so, it is a generic title that we would not usually trace.

I would include something about the lyrics being included in the booklet:

• Program notes by Yoav Kutner, and discographical details, laid in containers and complete lyrics in accompanying booklet.

The following fields are optional and you may not want to include them:
field 045 (Time Period of Content),
field 047 (Form of Musical Composition Code), and
field 048 (Number of Musical Instruments or Voices Code)
