PREMIS Working Group
Matthew presented an update on the preservation metadata task force's activities – drafting usage guidelines for the implementation of PREMIS at Yale. The committee provided feedback in two main areas:
- Deadlines: Matthew explained that the task force had decided to move its deadline, originally set for late July, to the end of the year. Audrey suggested adding a preliminary deadline in August for the metadata set, which would allow for external review and would help meet the needs of current projects. The committee discussed whether or not an early deadline would provide enough time for the working group to test implementations and for advisors from outside the Library to provide feedback. The consensus was to set a preliminary deadline in August.
- Testing the element set: Given the working group's interest in implementation, Ed asked how one would go about testing preservation metadata. The committee was not able to answer this question. However, Audrey pointed out that the PREMIS data dictionary represented the thinking of experts.
