Fixed Field Coding in Records for Online Resources
The table below correlates values assigned to LDR/Type of Record and 006 (Computer File)/Type of File.
|Type of Resource||LDR/Type of Record||006/Type of File|
|Digital Art Image||k||c|
|Electronic Music (Score)||c||c|
|Electronic Numeric Data||m||a|
|Digital Sound (Musical)||j||h|
|Digital Sound (Nonmusical)||i||h|
For textual resources, the values assigned to Type of Record and to Bibliographic Level in the leader determine the type of 008. If Bibliographic Level is coded m (Monograph), the type of 008 is Book. If Bibliographic Level is coded s (Serial) or i (Integrating Resource), the type of 008 is Continuing Resource. (Voyager still displays Serial for both.)
For non-textual resources, the value assigned to Type of Record alone determines the type of 008. If Type of Record is coded anything other than a (Language material) and Bibliographic Level is coded s (Serial) or i (Integrating Resource), an 006 for s (Serial Control) will need to be added to the record.
