Using RLIN for Windows
with CLARR

Logon       Searching        Special Features       Passing       Logoff


Logon

  • Click RLIN for Windows icon
    (not McGill RLIN icon)


  • Select DEFAULT session
    (or, confirm correct session name with expert user)

  • Click OPEN


  • Press ENTER key to begin session

  • Session should logon automatically
    (contact expert user if yours does not)


  • Welcome screen will appear

  • Should have "search" in upper right corner

  • You may now start your search

Searching

What is different from McGill RLIN?

  • Screen has command line at top

  • Prompt has no : or ? characters

  • Commands are sent using + key in numeric keypad (might be reset to ENTER key on your machine)


What has not changed?

Special Features

  1. Search strings can be created using copy and paste

  2. Search strings can be edited

  3. Macros can be created using COMMAND BUTTONS at bottom of screen


  • Go to SETTINGS menu and select COMMAND BUTTONS


  • Enter name and text of each macro

  • Use ^d at end of text you want "sent" automatically

  • Click OK button


  • Names will appear on command buttons

  • Click on command button to make text appear automatically

  • Go to SESSION menu and select SAVE SESSION

Passing

What is passing?


  • Find record to be passed into CLARR

  • Type PASS at any screen in the record (including holdings screen) and send


  • "Transaction successful" message will appear

  • Continue searching and passing records as needed

  • Best to pass records in batches and then logoff


    Holdings Screen:

  • Call numbers in RLIN CALL will pass to an 090 field

  • Call numbers in RLIN LCAL will pass to a 950 field (must retag in ORBIS record if needed)

  • Call numbers in MHO record will not be passed (must copy and paste into ORBIS record if needed)

Logoff

  • Type LOGOFF and send (or click LOGOFF command button)


  • Goodbye message will appear

  • Click X button in upper right to exit session
