24-Hour
and 3-Day Reserve Materials
Certain
volumes in the Cross Campus Library collection
are placed on 24-hour or 3-day reserve by professors,
lecturers, and teaching assistants who have included
the materials on their respective syllabi. These
materials are located in the open stacks (regular
shelves) with normal loan (3-week) books. Reserve
materials are shown on course list printouts produced
from Orbis. 24-hour and 3-day books have a stamp
for the current term on the panel at the back
of the book, e.g. 24-HOUR RESERVE - FALL
TERM 20--. Reserve loan periods are also
on display on Orbis
by using the Course
Reserve tab from the Simple Search
screen.
24-hour
and 3-day books may be borrowed at any time of
the day. (You can use Self Check Out to charge
Reserve books but you may not renew Reserve books.)
24-hour books are due within 24 hours, as shown
on the due slip placed in the back of the book.
3-day books are due at any time within 3 days.
Only faculty and students may borrow reserve materials.
24-hour and 3-day materials are non-renewable,
and must be returned to SML.
Closed Reserve
Closed
Reserve materials are located at
the SML Circulation
Desk. A Course List with all materials
currently on closed reserve is available from
Orbis.
Use the Course
Reserve tab from the Simple Search
screen and search by Instructor, Department, or
Course. Your search results will display a list
of titles in alphabetical order, and show the
Department and Course for which they are on reserve.
The
list provides:
- call
numbers (for books belonging to the Yale Library)
- 6
digit pamphlet numbers (for items such as photocopies
of articles or answers to problem sets)
- monograph
numbers (for personal copies of books or course
packets belonging to professors and teachers)
Videos,
software, restricted volumes, and other non-catalogued
materials can also be found in the Closed Reserve
section at the SML circulation desk.
Closed
Reserve items may be charged one at a time for
2 hours (for books and software), or 1 hour (for
videos and restricted volumes). The slip placed
in the back of the item notes the time
at which the item is due.
Renewal
is permitted, provided the item has not been requested
by another patron.
No
materials from Closed Reserve may be removed from
the library.
(Materials
received by the library, but not yet processed,
may not appear on any course lists.)
