Yale's circulation policies are designed to permit prompt and equitable access
to library materials. The staff at circulation service desks are focused on
meeting the research needs of the library's readers.
Circulation privileges are automatically accorded to those holding valid Yale
photo identification cards with a current validation sticker. A Yale photo ID
must be presented on request in order to use the Library's facilities and collections,
except in public areas or at the Government Documents Center.
Library privileges may also be granted to researchers not affiliated with Yale.
All non-Yale researchers who wish to use the Yale collections must register
in person at the Privileges Office (located in Sterling
Memorial Library) Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. On Saturdays,
assistance with privileges is offered at the Sterling Memorial Library Circulation
Desk from 10:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. Library privileges are personal and may not
be transferred to others.
Loan periods and policies vary among libraries and types
of materials, so it is important to check due dates and times marked on materials.
The staff at the circulation desk in each Yale library can explain specific
borrowing guidelines and fine policies or you can visit their Web pages to learn
more.
