New privileges policies will go into effect on Monday, April 4th for Yale Alumni and non-Yale researchers
After careful consideration of existing policies, usage and costs for Yale Alumni and non-Yale researchers, the Yale University Library will implement the following changes to its privileges and access policies effective on April 4th, 2011. Please note that these changes do not affect current Yale faculty, staff, students, affiliated researchers, spouses and affiliates with Yale IDs. A summary of those changes are outlined below:
Borrowing Passes
Borrowing passes may be purchased in order to check materials out from Yale University Library general collections. Yale Alumni and non-Yale researchers will have the choice of selecting either Standard or Premium Borrowing passes. All borrowing passes purchased before April 4, 2011 will be honored at the old rate and borrowing limits until renewal.

Stacks Passes
Stacks passes are available to researchers for entrance into the Sterling Memorial Library Stacks. Highlights of policy changes include:
- No charge for Yale Alumni, SHARES members, Faculty, Staff and Students at any post-secondary institution, City of New Haven Employees, and New Haven Clergy
- Passes issued on a monthly basis with no limits on renewal
- Rate changes for all others to: $20/week or $40/month
- Ability to request up to 20 items per day from LSF and Mudd collections
- Access to Library facilities for all open hours (some exclusions for School and Departmental libraries – please inquire at specific location before arrival)
Desk Passes
Desk passes are available free of charge to researchers for in-building use of Yale University Library general collections. Highlights of policy changes include:
- No charge for paging materials from Sterling, LSF and Mudd collections
- Ability to request up to 20 items per day from Sterling, LSF and Mudd collections
- Pass good for 1 week
- No limits on renewals or usage in a given year
- No access to Library facilities after 6pm (Daytime access to some School and Departmental libraries is restricted – please inquire at specific location before arrival)
