About Yale Visiting Scholars, Researchers, Post-Doctoral appointments and Fellowships
Yale University employed Visiting Scholars, Researchers and Post-Doctoral appointments are eligible for library borrowing privileges at no charge. These privileges vary depending on the appointment, which is set by the scholar's home department or college. All readers in this category are eligible for Yale ID cards, which is used to borrow materials and gain access to library facilities after 6pm. Please contact the Privileges Office for more information on your specific privileges.
Outside Researchers who hold a Yale University Fellowship appointment are eligible for full borrowing privileges at no charge. Privileges are granted for the length of the fellowship as determined by the host department or school. Researchers who are visiting Yale University under non-Yale fellowships are not eligible for privileges under this policy. Please see Outside Researcher policy for more information.
Yale Visiting Scholars, Researchers and Post-Docs: What am I eligible for?
Yale University employed Visiting Scholars, Researchers and Post-Doctoral appointments library privileges include:
- Check out materials from any library
- Building Access – allowed until closing
- Loan length – 6 months, one year OR date of expiration - dependant on appointment at Yale University
- Book limit – 225 or 300 books - dependant on appointment at Yale University
- Eligible for Interlibrary Loan and Borrow Direct
Yale Visiting Scholars, Researchers and Post-Docs: How do I register?
Readers in this category are normally eligible for a Yale ID card which also serves as the library borrowing card. Please visit the Yale ID center to get your card before using the library. Readers who are unable to secure a Yale ID card are encouraged to contact the Privileges Office at 203-432-7189 or smlcirc@yale.edu for assistance with library privileges.
Yale Fellows: What am I eligible for?
Outside Researchers who hold a Yale University Fellowship appointment are eligible for the following library privileges:
- Check out materials from any library
- Building Access – allowed until closing
- Loan length – two months or date of expiration, whichever is lesser
- Book limit – 50 books
