Moving Citations from Research Databases to RefWorks
There are four ways to move citations into your RefWorks personal library:
  1. Use a "Direct Export" from the research database. This will automatically launch RefWorks and store the citaitons in your "Last Imported" folder. Direct export functionality is available from a few database providers, specifically ABC-CLIO, CSA, EBSCOhost, and OCLC.
  2. Save the citations to import later into RefWorks. You must save the citations in the correct format in a text file, and later import the citations into RefWorks. This option is available from most research databases.
  3. Lauch a "Direct Connection" from within RefWorks to the research database. Available only for Orbis (Yale University Library catalog) and PubMed.
  4. Create the RefWorks citation by cutting and pasting or typing text by hand. This is labor intensive and prone to error. Only recommended for those citaitons and databases where the options above are not available to you (Academic Universe from Lexis-Nexis is an example).

The options available from some major databases are outlined below.
