Scott Kline '85 and Michele Schwartz

Mr. Kline is Texas native and a 1985 summa cum laude graduate of Yale College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.  Following graduation from Yale, Mr. Kline attended Harvard Law School, graduating cum laude in 1988.   Since then, Mr. Kline has spent his time as a lawyer, entrepreneur, and business executive in technology and telecommunications.  He is currently a partner in the law firm Gardere Wynne, Sewell LLP, where he is a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property Practice. His practice focuses on corporate transactions, with an emphasis on intellectual property, technology contracting, licensing law, Internet and electronic commerce, and business strategy. Scott has helped build and manage a diverse range of technology businesses, including Internet portals and distance learning companies.  His leadership has been chronicled in publications such as the New York Times, the Financial Times, Business Week, and in a joint case study published by the Harvard Business School and the Harvard Graduate School of Education. 

Mr. Kline has published numerous articles on legal, technology and educational issues, and has served as a contributor on educational projects including the Houghton Mifflin English Grammar and Composition textbook.  He also has testified on education and technology issues before the U.S. Congress.  Mr. Kline serves on the Board of Directors of The Gladney Center for Adoption, The University of Texas Review of Litigation, The Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, and as an Advisor and Venture Mentor to the Yale Entrepreneurial Institute.  

Michele Schwartz is a 1985 graduate of Haverford College where she was a varsity athlete in volleyball and lacrosse. She earned her JD in 1988 from Cordozo Law School at Yeshiva University in New York. She is a Chambers-rated specialist in intellectual property law with an emphasis on trademarks and copyrights, and has represented some of the leading clients in this area of the law, including Ringling Brothers and the Estate of Marilyn Monroe. She is currently a partner in the law firm of Andrews Kurth LLP.

 Mr. and Mrs. Kline reside in Dallas, Texas with their three children. Their oldest son Ryan is a member of the Yale Class of 2015.
