David A. Richards, '67, Law '72
Dave graduated summa cum laude from Yale College in 1967, and received his J.D. from Yale University Law School in 1972. He also received a B.A. (1969) and an M.A. (1971) from Cambridge University. Dave is with the New York office of the law firm of McCarter & English, LLP, specializing in real estate transactions, including some of the largest in New York City and throughout the United States. He is widely acknowledged as a leading authority on foreign investments in U.S. real estate. Dave is a generous supporter of the Yale University Library, and currently serves as Vice-Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Yale Library Associates. Dave has also donated to the Beinecke Library his first editions of the works of Rudyard Kipling, the largest such collection in the world. He is presently Vice President and North American Representative of the Kipling Society. Dave is also a noted Kipling scholar, and has co-edited a number of works on the author including the forthcoming Rudyard Kipling: A Bibliography (Oak Knoll Press and the British Library, 2010), the first to appear in 50 years and destined to be the definitive work of its kind. Dave is the immediate past Secretary of the Grolier Club, New York, and continues as a member of its council. Among his other Yale activities, he is an Associate Fellow of Davenport College and a member of the Board of the Russell Trust Association. He is also a Fellow of the Morgan Library and a member of the Morgan Library’s Visiting Committee for Modern Books and Manuscripts. In addition, Dave is the former President of the Scarsdale Public Library. He lives with his family in Scarsdale, New York.
