Reference Librarians and Subject Specialists
$ 2,000,000, 8 opportunities

Reference librarians are central to Yale’s mission of teaching and research. They are responsible for the teaching and research needs of students and faculty associated with their subject specialization. The Librarian develops the print and digital collections and serves the broader information needs of the Yale community through participation in general reference and instruction programs. Under the general direction of the Head of Research Services and Collections, a Reference Librarian plans, promotes, and implements library instructional programs for undergraduates, graduates, and faculty of relevant departments. They inform the wider campus community of the collections through appropriate advocacy, publicity, and exhibitions and provide general reference service to patrons in person, through email, and over the telephone. Endowment funding is being sought for 8 general reference librarians who cover a range of subjects from Religious Studies and European History to Philosophy and Anthropology. If you are interested in funding a General Reference Librarian in a particular discipline, please contact amanda.patrick@yale.edu to enquire about the subject specializations that are available for funding.

Electronic Collections Librarian
$1.5 million

This position supports annual expenditure of more than $4 million on electronic collection licenses and subscriptions: an increasingly intricate field which calls for a high level of expertise. The program is seriously under-resourced, and now that Yale is integrating its teaching and learning activities increasingly into the electronic environment, additional curricular calls are being made on this area of the Library’s work. This position will support all areas of the curriculum, but it provides particularly crucial support to the sciences and social sciences.
