Academic Search Premier
The Academic Search Premier database provides access to journal articles in most academic areas of study. It includes full-text coverage of nearly 1,200 journals from 1990 to the present and abstracts/indexing of nearly 3,000 journals from 1984 to the present.

America: History and Life
America: History and Life is a bibliographic reference to the history of the United States and Canada from prehistory to the present. Published since 1964, the database comprises almost 400,000 bibliographic entries, covering over 2,000 journals published worldwide. In addition to covering all key English-language historical journals, America: History and Life coverage includes selected historical journals from major countries, state and local history journals, and a targeted selection of hundreds of journals in the social sciences and humanities. Over 90% of the articles included are published in English-language journals. All abstracts are written in English.

L'Année Philologique
The international bibliography of record for the field of classical studies; contains information about publications of all kinds dealing with every aspect of Greco-Roman antiquity. Monographs, articles, dissertations, book reviews, etc. on Greek and Latin language and linguistics, Greek and Roman history, literature, philosophy, art, archaeology, religion, mythology, music, science, early Christian texts, numismatics, papyrology and epigraphy are included.

Art Full Text is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles from periodicals published throughout the world. Full-text coverage for selected periodicals is also included.

Arts & Humanities Citation Index
An international interdisciplinary index to the literature of the arts and humanities, indexing the contents of about 6,100 journals, covering about 1,000 fully and about 5,100 selectively. The Citation Index allows one to find what later articles have cited earlier books or articles.

ATLA Religion Database
Published by the American Theological Library Association, the ATLA Religion Database provides electronic access by author, title, subject, and keyword to articles published in periodicals and journals, essays and articles published in multi-author monographs, and book reviews in the fields of religion and theology.

Catholic Periodical & Literature Index
The Catholic Periodical & Literature Index covers all aspects of the Catholic faith and lifestyle, and includes over 419,000 index citations of articles and reviews published in Roman Catholic periodicals, Papal documents, church promulgations, and books about the Catholic faith that are authored by Catholics and/or produced by Catholic publishers. It is produced by ATLA for the Catholic Library Association. Coverage dates from 1981.

Dissertations & Theses - Full Text contains more than 1.6 million entries with information about doctoral dissertations and master's theses. It is the same database as Dissertation Abstracts, but with the significant advantage that titles published since 1997 are available in PDF digital format and have 24 page previews available.

Elenchus Bibliographicus
Ephemerides Theologicae Lovanienses (ETL), founded in 1924, is a quarterly publication by professors of Theology and Canon Law at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and the Université Catholique de Louvain (Louvain-la-Neuve). Issue 2-3 (September) represents the annual Elenchus Bibliographicus, an extensive bibliography of books and articles that appeared during the preceding year. The bibliography (ca. 15,000 entries) covers the entire field of Theology and Canon Law: History of Theology, History of Religions, Old and New Testament, Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology, Sacramentology and Liturgy, Ascetic and Mystical Theology, Moral and Pastoral Theology, and Canon Law.

Humanities Full Text
Humanities Abstracts Full Text, produced by The H.W. Wilson Company, is a bibliographic database that cites articles from more than 350 English-language periodicals, plus the full text of over 95 of those periodicals. It covers the fields of archaeology and classical studies, art and photography, folklore, general scholarship, history, journalism and communications, language and literature, literary and political criticism, music and performing arts, philosophy, and religion and theology. Periodical coverage includes some of the best-known scholarly journals and numerous lesser-known but important specialized magazines.

Index of Christian Art
Internet access to the Princeton project which contains complex information on approximately 200,000 photographic reproductions of Christian art in the east and west from early apostolic times up to 1400 A.D.

Index Theologicus
The Index theologicus database contains bibliographical references from articles in more than 600 journals, Festschriften and conference volumes. The extensive research possibilities enable theologians and specialists in religious studies to obtain a quick and comprehensive overview of the publications relevant to their own field of research. Ten of the twenty volumes of the conventional Zeitschrifteninhaltsdienst Theologie (1985-1994) have now been completely retro-converted into database structures.

Index to Theses ... Accepted for Higher Degrees by the Universities of Great Britain and Ireland
The Index to Theses provides total bibliographic control of all theses ever produced by British and Irish universities (1716 to the present). Access is by author, title, university, degree, year, and keyword. Abstracts are included for titles written since 1970. Full text is not provided, but copies of the dissertations may be requested through interlibrary loan.

International Medieval Bibliography
An online bibliography of the European Middle Ages (c. 400-1500) providing the entire run of the print copy of the IMB from 1968-2000, with articles in journals and miscellany volumes (conference proceedings, essay collections or Festschriften) worldwide.

International Philosophical Bibliography
Online bibliography that lists books and articles about philosophy and history of philosophy including: Antiquity, Middle Ages, Renaissance to Enlightenment, 19th and 20th Centuries, and Non-Western Traditions. The International Philosophical Bibliography covers all issues 1997 to present. The Retrospective file covers selected pre-1996 listings.

JSTOR (Journal Storage Project)
JSTOR provides complete electronic backfiles of core journals in a variety of subjects. Full text coverage begins at the first issue of each journal and usually ends within five years of the present. Recently published issues are not available. Disciplines include anthropology, Asian studies, ecology, economics, education, finance, history, mathematics, philosophy, political science, population studies, and sociology. You may search the entire database, search selected journals, or browse journal tables-of -contents.

LexisNexis Academic
LexisNexis Academic maintains a huge database of news and business information, including full-text stories and abstracts from an international array of newspapers, magazines, newsletters, wire services, and broadcast transcripts. It provides access to the most up to date information on current news and business topics.

MLA (Modern Language Association) Bibliography
Produced by the Modern Language Association of America, the MLA Bibliography indexes critical materials on literature, languages, linguistics, and folklore. The database provides access to some one million citations from over 4,000 journals and series published worldwide, as well as books, essay collections, working papers, proceedings, dissertations, and bibliographies. The Bibliography covers 1963 to the present.

New Testament Abstracts
Periodical abstracts and book notices of primarily European and American works dealing with the New Testament. NTA typically abstracts around 2,000 articles chosen from more than 500 periodicals in numerous languages. Nearly 850 current books are also summarized annually. The database contains more than 33,000 article abstracts, 1,200 review abstracts, 12,600 book abstracts, and 50 software abstracts. Article coverage in the database dates back to 1985. Some articles available full-text.

Nineteenth Century Masterfile (Poole's Plus)
Largest available database for pre-1920 studies, with more than six million citations. It provides access to Poole's Index to Periodical Literature, 1802-1907 and An Alphabetical Subject Index and Index Encyclopedia to Periodical Articles on Religion, 1890-1899. (ed. Ernest Cushing Richardson), etc.

Eureka / RLG Union Catalog
The RLG Union Catalog offers online access to the Research Libraries Information Network's (RLIN) bibliographic database of more than 22 million titles. The RLG Union Catalog has been combined with WorldCat. It is a comprehensive database that serves as a major union catalog of records describing books, serials, archival collections, manuscripts, maps, musical scores, sound recordings, films, photographs, posters, computer files, electronic resources and reflects the collections of major research libraries; academic, public, corporate and national libraries; archives and museums, historical societies and international book vendors. Information on the current availability of material at specific libraries is being added as this database begins to interact with the circulation systems of various libraries.

Searchable directory of libraries worldwide. Most of the listings are for libraries in North America. Each listing includes links to the library's website and online catalog. Missionary Periodicals Database
The database aims to record all periodicals on foreign missions published in Britain between the eighteenth century and the 1960s by missionary societies and commercial publishers. There are currently over 400 periodicals accessible through the database, with full details of current location, their targeted readership, regional coverage, and main features. The database is still under construction.

Yale Law Library's online catalog, MORRIS, contains data for the Law Library only. Law Library holdings are not in Orbis, so check MORRIS as well as Orbis for law-related topics.

Theological Online Catalogs
This database of theological library catalogs is maintained by the American Theological Library Association (ATLA) Technical Services Interest Group. It organized by alphabetical name, by geographical location, and by denomination. Links to some international theological libraries are also included.

WorldCat is an online union catalog; that is, a bibliographic database of over 39 million records of books and other materials held in thousands of academic, public, special and national libraries around the world. Use WorldCat to locate materials outside of Yale, in almost any area of study, or to locate items in specific libraries and research collections. WorldCat provides catalog records for books, maps, sound recordings, musical scores, films, archives, and computer files held in research, corporate, and public libraries, as well as museums, archives and historical societies. This encyclopedia includes information on more than 2,300 North American religious groups in the U.S. and Canada -- from Adventists to Zen Buddhists. Essays and directory listings describe the historical development of religious families and give factual information about each group within those families, including, when available, membership figures, educational facilities, and periodicals.

The second edition of a resource that is considered a standard reference in the field. Presents a cross-cultural approach that emphasizes religion's role within everyday life and as a unique experience from culture to culture. Oxford English Dictionary
The Oxford English Dictionary (Oxford University Press) is in an online version which enables the full text of the Dictionary to be searched in a way impossible in the printed version, and which allows updates more rapidly and more frequently than ever before. Language is constantly evolving, and there has been a great proliferation of new words and meanings in English throughout the world since the original publication of the OED between 1884 and 1928. Now, for the first time ever, the Dictionary is being completely revised. Every one of the 250,000 entries is being updated, and many more will be added during the course of this unprecedented revision programme, which is expected to double the length of the text. Draft versions of new and revised entries from the revision programme will be added to OED Online at quarterly intervals, with each revised entry being linked to the Second Edition version for comparison.

A free resource, the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, was designed from its inception (September 1995) as a dynamic reference work. In a dynamic reference work, each entry is maintained and kept up to date by an expert or group of experts in the field.

Library of Latin Texts (CLCLT)
CLCLT, a database for Latin texts, including CETEDOC, contains texts from the beginning of Latin literature (Livius Andronicus, 240 BC) through to the texts of the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). It covers all the works from the classical period, the most important patristic works, a very extensive corpus of Medieval Latin literature as well as works of recentior latinitas including texts from the Reformation and Counter-Reformation. Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG)
The Thesaurus Linguae Graecae (TLG) database is the work-in-progress of an ambitious project housed at the University of California, Irvine. The TLG aims to produce a data bank of all ancient Greek authors and texts extant from the period between Homer and 600 C.E., including New Testament authors. TLG contains nearly 2,900 authors and more than 8,000 individual pieces of extant writing in Greek. The current release is virtually complete through 200 C.E.

Bible Versions of the Latin Fathers. This database contains comprehensive patristic records of the Vetus Latina Institut in Beuron. These are Latin biblical texts that were in existence and use from the second century AD/CE until the time when the Vulgate became predominant are known under the common rubric of the Vetus Latina, or the Old Latin, Bible. The term Vetus Latina refers to all those biblical texts translated into Latin which are not found in the Vulgate.

Oxford English Dictionary
The Oxford English Dictionary (Oxford University Press) is in an online version which enables the full text of the Dictionary to be searched in a way impossible in the printed version, and which allows updates more rapidly and more frequently than ever before. Language is constantly evolving, and there has been a great proliferation of new words and meanings in English throughout the world since the original publication of the OED between 1884 and 1928. Now, for the first time ever, the Dictionary is being completely revised. Every one of the 250,000 entries is being updated, and many more will be added during the course of this unprecedented revision programme, which is expected to double the length of the text. Draft versions of new and revised entries from the revision programme will be added to OED Online at quarterly intervals, with each revised entry being linked to the Second Edition version for comparison.

Oxford Language Dictionaries Online
Initially offering millions of words, phrases, and translations, in French, German, Spanish and Italian, the site will expand to include many other languages such as Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Polish. Included are usage examples and illustrative phrases, grammar guidance, click-through verb tables and pronunciation charts, explanations of grammatical terms, and help with spelling and punctuation. Also included are hundreds of correspondence templates including sample letters, CVs and resumes to provide practical help with writing in each language. Contextualized language reference help includes notes on life and culture, guidance on grammar and idiomatic usage, and Words of the Day. Updates every six months ensure that the most current meanings and the latest new words are just a click away. Advanced search options allow users to search the full text of each dictionary, or restrict a search to specific parts of speech or language register. Extensive links to language lea! rning and usage supplements provide a 'learn as you go' gateway to further language study. Citation information is available for all entries.

A faculty-library initiative of the Yale Divinity School and the Yale University Divinity School Library, Ad Hoc is a searchable database that contains electronic images and texts related to the history of Christianity.

American Religion Image Library
The American Religion Image Library is a pilot project of the Vanderbilt Divinity Library funded by the Association of Theological Schools with cooperation from the archivists of the Society for Pentecostal Studies. The purpose of the project is to provide images and illustrative text for the instructional needs of teachers of American religion.

The Utrecht Psalter
One of the great masterpieces of Western medieval art, the Utrecht Psalter was created in the 2nd quarter of the 9th century and is considered a masterpiece of Carolingian book production. The digital version includes images of the Psalter along with text and explanatory notes.

Yale Department of Classics Digital Collection
The Classics Collection comprises images from the teaching and research collections of the Classics Department. Some have kindly been provided by members of staff; others have been digitized from the collection that has been built up over the years by students and faculty of the Departments of Classics, History, and History of Art. The collection, which is in the process of development, ranges over the whole Mediterranean world. It includes images taken on site at the Dura and Gerasa excavations, maps, site plans, elevations, panoramic and detailed views of sites, and photos of all kinds of objects representing both high and low ancient material culture.
