Articles vary both in scope, from narrowly focused entries to broadly conceived surveys, and in length, with most falling between 1,000 to 5,000 words. Each article concludes with a bibliography. Includes a thirteen-part, multi-authored, 60,000-word history of ethics. Contains survey articles of the major traditions in religious ethics. Two indexes are provided: an analytical index of the text of each article, and also an index of the authors referred to in the bibliographies.

- Catholic Social Guild Yearbook
- (Edited by the Central Executive of the Catholic Social Guild. London: The Guild, (1910-). v. Annual. LC 14-17248.)
- Begun by Father Charles Plater, the first six volumes of this series were composed of essays recounting the activities of the Guild and other charitable organizations in Britain and the U.S., and an annual diary of the events of the previous year. In 1916, the work was transformed into volumes centered on a single issue. Some of the better known titles are A Social Crusade (1918), The Community and the Criminal (1926), Catholics and Public Medical Services (1930), Quadragesimo Anno (1934), Usury in Catholic Theology (1945), and the 1960 edition Catholic Social Action in Britain, 1909-59, a history of the Guild with a complete bibliography (McCabe). Ceased 1964.

- "Treats one aspect of religion as it is seen by social scientists: situations in which organized religion serves as an active agent in social change," that is, "church-supported action program[s] clearly designed to promote change in social structures" (Pref.). "Church" is used loosely to refer to any form of religious organization, including non-Christian. Materials covered include books, monographs, journal articles, as well as chapters and essays in collections. Sources are largely the work social scientists, but included are some accounts by journalists, church leaders, and other non-academics. Excluded are theological works, and also official church pronouncements. The inquiry is not exhaustive, and is limited to modern societies. Most materials are from the United States. Contains author, title, and subject indexes.

Each monograph focuses on a single topic or a few closely related topics considered to be of high interest to the modern public. Topics represent a "wide range of vital social and political issues," including capital punishment, abortion, euthanasia, racism, etc. An introductory essay begins each issue "which provides an overview of the topic itself and traces its recent historical manifestations," and includes bibliographical citations (Pref.). Primary documents are arranged in four sections: The Roman Catholic Church, Protestant and Eastern Orthodox Churches, Jewish Groups, and Other Religious Bodies. Within each section, statements are ordered chronologically according to issuing date. Each monograph also contains an "Index to Organizations, Statements, and Subjects," arranged in a single alphabetical sequence.
