The official publication of the North American Patristics Society, this journal focuses on the study of Christianity in the context of late ancient societies and religions from the second through the seventh centuries. It is "...intended to be a forum for newer approaches to the study of the early church, using insights from 'social history, feminist studies, and literary and philosophical theory,' and [deals], too, with the oriental branches of the early church (Syriac, Coptic, Armenian, etc.). Articles representing more traditional approaches [are] also included, though there [is] less focus on the theology of the period" (Robinson 1.49).
