Summer hours begin on Saturday, May 5th.

During the school year, the Divinity Library is usually open seven days a week. The Special Collections reading room is open Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:50 pm.

Business hours are 8:30 am – 4:50 pm, Monday – Friday. During these times, the library is open both to the Divinity School community and to other visitors. Visitors to the library who are not part of the Yale University community are requested to sign the library's guestbook, located next to the Circulation Desk, when they visit the library.

During non-business hours (i.e., evenings and weekends) access to the Divinity School building, and hence the library, requires swiping the Yale ID to enter the Divinity School building. The ID cards of students, faculty and staff of the Divinity School are automatically set up for access into the building. However, other Yale students, faculty and staff do not have automatic access into the building on evenings and weekends with their Yale ID cards. Access may be requested by contacting the Divinity Librarian, Paul Stuehrenberg, at 432-5292, email paul.stuehrenberg@yale.edu. Directions

The Divinity Library is located within the Divinity School building, at 409 Prospect Street in New Haven, Connecticut.

From downtown New Haven:

Walking

  • Walk up College Street going north toward Grove Street.
  • Cross Grove Street, and College Street becomes Prospect Street.
  • Follow Prospect Street up the hill until you reach the Divinity School on your right in slightly less than a mile.
  • The main entrance is along the north driveway, past the stairs that lead into the quadrangle.
  • Walk up the driveway until you see a portico over the main entrance.
  • Once inside, bear left and follow the interior corridor around to the library entrance.

Driving

  • From Woolsey Hall, drive north on Prospect Street.
  • The Divinity School quadrangle will be on your right in slightly less than a mile.
  • The main entrance is along the north driveway off of Prospect Street.
    • Parking
      • There is visitor parking along this main driveway; to park in one of the visitor parking spaces, you will need to get a guest parking pass from the reception desk at the main entrance.
      • On street parking is available on the west side of Prospect Street (across from the Divinity School) and on Canner Street (one block north of the Divinity School on the right).
  • Once inside the main entrance of the Divinity School, bear left and follow the interior corridor around to the library entrance.

Lodging

Yale Divinity School Guest Cottages

When available, the guest cottages at YDS can be rented by people who are doing research at the Divinity Library. The cottages have single beds, microwave and small refrigerator. Contact the Special Collections Librarian to inquire about availability.

Overseas Ministries Study Center

The Overseas Ministry Study Center (OMSC) is located at 490 Prospect Street, one block from Yale Divinity School. Guest rooms are sometimes available to those outside of OMSC's study program, with priority given to those who are engaged in research related to mission and the world church. There is a minimum 3-night stay required, with payment in full upon arrival. Guests residing at OMSC for 4 weeks or more are required to show proof of medical insurance coverage. The Graduate Club
