Martha Smalley
Special Collections Librarian / Curator of the Day Missions Collection

Martha Smalley is Special Collections Librarian and Curator of the Day Missions Collection. She has been in charge of the special collections program at the Divinity Library since 1975 and has also worn various other hats along the way, including reference librarian, systems manager, and coordinator of the Yale-Edinburgh Group on the History of the Missionary Movement and World Christianity.

Martha received her B.A. from Wellesley College with a major in Religious Studies. She has had archival training at American University, and holds a M.S. in Education from Southern Connecticut State University and a M.A. in American History from Trinity College, Hartford.

Martha has published articles related to missions history and archives and is the co-author of Hallowed Halls: Protestant Colleges in Old China and the Rescuing the Memory of our People Archives Manual. She has traveled widely in Africa, Asia, and Europe to give archival training workshops.
