Paul Stuehrenberg began working at Yale Divinity Library in May 1982 as a catalog librarian and became Divinity Librarian in 1991. He is only the third Divinity Librarian, succeeding Raymond Morris who was Librarian from 1932 to 1972 and Stephen L. Peterson, Librarian from 1972 to 1991.
Paul received his B.A. from Concordia Senior College, his M.Div. from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, his S.T.M. from Christ Seminary in St. Louis, and his M.L.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota. His S.T.M. thesis was an exegetical study of 1 Peter 3:18-22 and his doctoral dissertation was on the Patristic and Medieval interpretation of the Cornelius story in Acts.
Paul has published numerous articles on the history of Biblical interpretation, missions' bibliography, and theological librarianship. He is an active member of the Pacific History Association, the International Association for Mission Studies, the Society of Biblical Literature, and the American Theological Library Association. He served as President of ATLA in 2004/2005. He is an ordained Lutheran minister and serves as the Director of the Lutheran Studies Program at Yale Divinity School.
