1993 Bentley Fellowship

In 1993, James Bower, Marion Matters, Kathleen Roe, and Richard Szary were awarded a Mellon Research Fellowship for the Study of Modern Archives at the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan to study the data requirements for archival authority control. The following documents were developed during that fellowship and define data elements needed for describing persons and organizations.

1998 Yale meeting

In December 1998, the Digital Library Federation funded a meeting of a group of archivists, archival educators, and information scientists to define a plan of work for pursuing the development of a standard for recording contextual information.
