Shanghai-based Shen Bao (申報) started its first issue on April 30, 1872 and ceased its publication on May 5, 1949. It is the earliest and most influential newspaper in Chinese language with the longest history in modern China. The database includes complete 27,534 issues from Shanghai, Hankou, and Hong Kong versions. In addition to about 420,000 pages of original images, the database also provides the input full-text, including news, supplement, supplementary issues, special issues, and advertisements. All images have scanning precision reaching 300 dpi. The database supports multi-level search as well as multi-language Window platform.
The East Asia Library would especially like to acknowledge the generous funding support from the Council on East Asian Studies to acquire this valuable resource.
