East Asia Library Guides: China

Chinese Studies Resources: Yearbooks [Back to Table of Contents]

Chinese yearbooks can be classified into two types: general and statistical. The statistical yearbooks usually have "tong ji" in their titles. The information in these two types of yearbooks on the same subject can complement each other. For statistical yearbooks, please see the guide to Chinese statistics. This guide only deals with the general yearbooks.

Overview

Zhongguo nian jian gai lan- 中国年鉴概览 (2003) lists hundreds of Chinese yearbook titles. 207 titles are identified from the pre-1949 period, while 2280 yearbooks have been published since 1949. A checklist of Chinese Yearbooks at UCLA (call # Z6958 C5 R53 1995 (LC)+, East Asia Reading Room) is also helpful to identify yearbook titles.
