If a user only needs to read the text of an article and does not care its format or font styles (level 1), then the need for configuring the computer is minimum. Most personal computers and many (but not all) public workstations in the library now have both Chinese language support for Internet Explorer and Chinese input method installed, so there is no need to make additional configurations at this level.

In order to view articles in pdf format (level 2), Adobe Reader (version 4.1/5.1/6.0) with Asian font packs are needed.
To download Adobe Reader, click here.

If you'd like to view the People's Daily article in pdf format, at the first time, you must download and install a PDF use authorization from the database. To download and install the authorization, follow the steps below:
1. Go to the database by following the link on the reference page from computers on campus network that you have authority to configure.
2. Click on the main images to enter the database. Then select any article.
3. When the article shows up like the screenshot below, click on the button "PDF Use Authorization" on the top (indicated by the green box) and save the file to your computer. Follow the instructions to open the file and a copyright statement in pdf format will show up. You can now open the article in pdf format. This only needs to be done once for your computer.

Sometimes users may want to view the article in their original font styles (level 3), then they need to download and install supplementary Chinese fonts to the Windows/Fonts folder in their computer. Follow the step 1 and 2 as above, then click on "download fonts" button (indicated by the red box on the screenshot) on your screen to start downloading.
