Philosophy and Practical Information
- Statement
of Current Perspective and Preferred Practices for the Selection
and Purchase of Electronic Information -- International
Coalition of Library Consortia (ICOLC)
- This document sets forth concerns about the current electronic
information environment, the desired environment for the future,
and the preferred practices for library consortia and their member
libraries to achieve the desired outcomes.
- Guidelines
for Statistical Measures of Usage of Web-based Indexed,
Abstracted, and Full Text Resources -- International Coalition
of Library Consortia (ICOLC)
- This document defines and creates a common set of basic use
information requirements that are an integral and necessary part
of any electronic product offering . These requirements apply to
vendor operated web sites and to software provided to libraries or
consortia for local operation. Information providers are
encouraged to go beyond these minimal requirements as appropriate
for their specific electronic resources.
- Liblicense:
Licensing Digital Information -- Yale University Library and
Council on Library & Information Resources
- We hope that these materials will serve as a useful starting
point towards providing librarians with a better understanding of
the issues raised by licensing agreements in the digital age.
- Beyond
Print: Revisioning Serials Acquisitions for the Digital Age --
Ellen Finnie Duranceau, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Libraries
- A case study of how serials acquisitions has changed at the
MIT Libraries
Policies and Procedures
- Policy
for Selecting and Acquiring Electronic Products -- University
of Arizona Library
- In general, these criteria are to be used in conjunction with
the Library's most current guidelines for the allocation and
management of the information access budget, the current
collection development policy, and other pertinent guidelines and
policies, including the Library's retention policy.
- Digital
Library SunSITE Collection and Preservation Policy -- Berkeley
Digital Library
- Print-based collecting level designations are still useful
within the digital realm, but for digital collections even more
information is required. The very idea of "collecting" is, for
example, an issue. What comprises "collecting"? At the Digital
Library SunSITE we propose four levels of collecting, which may
also include designation of preservation commitment.
- Electronic
Journals in the UB Catalog and on the Libraries' Web Site: General
Statement of Policy -- University at Buffalo. University
Libraries
- Describes the policy of the University Libraries to provide
access to electronic journals through the University Libraries'
homepage and through the online public access catalog portion of
BISON (the UB catalog).
- Principles
for Acquiring and Licensing Information in Digital Formats --
University of California Libraries
- The list of principles is provided to guide the University and
its employees (at both campus and systemwide levels) in developing
and reviewing proposals to/from, and in negotiating contracts
with, providers of information in digital formats.
- Assumptions
& Guiding Principles for Near-Term Initiatives -- Task
Force on the CIC Electronic Collection
- The Task Force on the CIC Electronic Collection has identified
a strategy for developing the networked information environment
which attempts simultaneously to build digital content and the
necessary infrastructure for information access and delivery.
- Electronic Access
Committee pages -- Duke University Libraries
- Includes documents on criteria for purchasing e-resources, and
criteria for inclusion on web lists of available databases.
- Policy
for Electronic Resources Management -- University of Iowa
Libraries
- This document provides context and guidelines for the
University Libraries in the selection, acquisition, provision of
access to, and maintenance of electronic resources.
- Collection
Development Policy for Electronic Information Resources
(Reference) -- Loras College, Wahlert Memorial Library

provides guidelines for the selection, acquisition, access to and
maintenance of electronic resources.

practices and procedures for selecting, funding, and managing
electronic resources.

for Managing Electronic Resources -- Old Dominion University
Library
- Includes principles and guidelines, selection checklist,
license criteria, and evaluation procedures.
- Interim
Electronic Collecting Policy -- University of Texas at Austin
Library
- Electronic materials are evaluated under the same guidelines
as other formats, with additional consideration given to the
technical aspects of the information delivery mechanism, the
interface, the discovery and retrieval software, and any
additional overhead costs in equipment or personnel required to
deliver the information.
- Guidelines
for the Selection, Acquisition and Implementation of Public Use
Databases-- Virginia Tech University Libraries
- These guidelines are intended to simplify and standardize the
selection and implementation of public use databases acquired by
the Library.

Sites: Selection Criteria -- ALA's Association for Library
Service to Children, Children and Technology Committee

- Selection
Guidelines for Free Internet Resources -- University of
Rochester River Campus Libraries
- Describes selection criteria in outline form.
- Criteria
for Cataloging Selected Remote Access Electronic Resources --
Yale University Library
- For the purposes of selection at Yale University Library,
remote electronic resources can be divided into three types. Each
type has a corresponding cataloging action. The core question to
be decided is whether or not the resource is durable. The baseline
criteria used here is whether or not there is credible
institutional support for the electronic resource under
consideration.
- Bibliography
on Evaluating Internet Resources -- Nicole Auer, Virginia
Polytechnic Institute and State University
- This bibliography has grown with the increasing number of
documents which address the problems and issues related to
teaching and using critical thinking skills to evaluate Internet
resources.

information resources, particularly those on the Internet.
