Instructional Accounts for Subscribed Electronic Resources of Yale University Library

When a subscribed resource is acquired with a limited number of simultaneous users or ports, the Yale University Library (YUL) requires the availability of an instructional account or port to enable hand-on instruction for readers as part of the instructional programs offered by YUL. Such instructional accounts may be available under a separate license or under restrictive use agreements.

Vendor Contacts should consult with instructional staff and discuss with the vendor YUL's desired preference for such instructional accounts. If what is offered is not one of our preferred choices, ongoing lobbying of the vendor to change their options may be required.

In order of preference, the following are forms that instructional accounts may take.

(1) Instructional account(s) available continuously under password protection, but used only for instructional purposes.

(2) An instructional account available continuously, tied to specific IP addresses for workstations located in library instruction classrooms.

(3) Instructional account(s) available upon very minimal prior notice: 24 hrs or less preferred.

It is barely acceptable, and not very useful, to have instruction accounts which require notice as long as 1 week or longer prior to the instruction session in which the account is to be used.
