Legacy Data of Subscribed Electronic Resources for Yale University Library

Selectors who acquire or receive physical format materials (magnetic tape cartridges, CD-ROMs, etc.) for resources that are also available online should decide whether the local physical copy will be made available to the public. In general, making the local physical format available for use is not cost-effective, and may also not be permitted by the license agreements.

If the residual physical format of a subscribed networked resource is not to be made available to the public, it should be sent to the Electronic Collections Department for storage and eventual preservation.

These legacy data objects should still be recorded in Orbis, and treated as if they were a desk copy. They should be received, suppressed, and sent directly to the Electronic Collections Department. No attempt should be made to enhance the bibliographic record with better cataloging and no preparations treatment is necessary.
