This database contains eleven major editions from the first Folio of 1623 to the Cambridge edition of 1863-6, twenty-eight separate contemporary printings of individual plays and poems, selected apocrypha and related works. In addition, it contains more than one hundred adaptations, sequels and burlesques from the seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, including the whole of Bell's Acting Edition of Shakespeare's Plays (1774).
To open a search window, select the required item from the Options menuor select the Search icon (the magnifying glass) from the Tool bar, then select the desired search from the options provided.
Note: If you are unfamiliar with Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare, it is recommended that you use Search First Folio.
Search First Folio
The "Search First Folio" window allows you to search by one or any combination of the following phrase fields:
Summary of Matches
When the search is complete, you will be taken to a Summary of Matches which lists the items retrieved by your search, and gives brief details of each.
The Full Text window contains the text of all the plays and poems in the Editions and Adaptations of Shakespeare.
A bar immediately above the top line of text displays the play or poem title, the act and scene reference where relevant, and the line number relating to the play in the active line.
Printing and Saving
Select the printer or disk icon to print or save desired data. The required window must be active in order to save or print from it.
