Current Orbis OPAC requests

Orbis OPAC changes are requested by Yale staff or proposed by PIC committee members.
Orbis OPAC changes are made in a yearly cycle.

Current OPAC Change Requests under consideration by PIC:

  1. Adding a link to the AOB request page from the "Item not available for Call Slip" page in Orbis, or adding AOB as a pick up location on the Requests page that is currently linked form the "Item not available for Call Slip" page in Orbis. (Jae Rossman)

  2. PIC decision: This request has been forwarded to Access Services to discuss ways to include the AOB on the request form that is maintained by Access Services. Jae will work with Access Services to discuss this matter further.

  3. When a second date is recorded in angle brackets in the 260 ‡c (e.g. c2003-), the imprint column in the OPAC call number search results does not display the angle brackets and associated contents. For an example search on BR145.3 H57. The imprint shows only c2003-

The imprint column in the search results does display the angle bracket information in other searches such as an author or series title search.

  4. This item has been reported to Endeavor, incident #127483

  5. Can a change be made to the New Books list in Orbis so that our reconned records do not show up as new books? (Ellen Cordes, Lewis Walpole Library)

PIC decision: Change will be made.

  6. Could we add the Anthropology Library to the list of locations on both the new books page, and the limits page?  It could go in the part of the list that begins with the African Collection. (Emily Horning)

PIC decision: Both change requests will be made. See the New Books page and the Limits screen in Torbis.

  7. This announcement prompts me to ask if it would be possible to add Reference (SML only) to the list of locations on the New Books page.  It already exists in the list of collections under limit by collection.  Is it possible to report new print resources and new electronic resources in separate lists? Could Sterling Reference (and Sterling Library, for that matter) routinely produce these separate lists? (Sue Lorimer)

PIC decision: Change will be made. See the Limits screen in Torbis.

  8. Changes to the displayh.cfg file which configures the holdings record display – see information from Ellen Cordes.

PIC decision: Change will be made, and in addition we will be removing label for Available Online in both holdings and bibliographic 856 fields. Do a title search for "Britannia roused" in Torbis.

  9. There is one language that shows up in the limit field currently as G_.  It should be changed to Ga, to match LC and MARC conventions. (Chuck Riley)

PIC decision: Change will be made. See the Limits screen under the Language section in Torbis.

  10. Have PIC consider moving the 852 subfield k, onto the same line with the rest of the 852 field so that the word “Oversize” now displays in-line with the rest of the call number, instead of on a separate line. The Divinity Library uses the subfield k for Oversize. Subfield k is also used for Folio across campus. Search for the LC call number of "G1001" and you'll see both SML and Divinity titles with subfield k. (Eric Friede)

  11. PIC decision: Change will be made. Do a title search for Carta Bible atlas in Torbis and note that the call number displays on one line.

  12. Is there any plan you know of to link the ebooks search from the library's front door and to expand it to include all online books?  Since SML uses the front door as its default homepage, this is where we would link such a list if we were to develop one.  Linking from the SML front door would be useless since I don't think anybody really uses it.  We could also develop this capability from the Online Reference Resources page. (Sue Lorimer)

  13. This item is not an OPAC request, and will be discussed by PIC during the spring semester.

  14. Language of Title search considering the new initial articles index.

  15. PIC decision: leave these fields as they are, unchanged.

  16. Has anyone asked about modifying the public information for Withdrawn books? Now, all last copies that have been withdrawn display "Status unknown. Contact staff for information." at the Item level. This means that users think we have items until they get to the Item record details, and users must contact our staff who must go into Voyager to determine they were withdrawn. At this point most users are then disappointed and/or annoyed.

Could we possibly suppress these records, and have users ask staff in those few instances when they might think we may have had a copy? The data will still be in our system, but it will not present misleading information at the Bib Record level, and frustrations upon discovery of this status? (David Stern)

PIC decision: Change will be made. Will now display as "Unavailable" rather than "Status unknown" and the "more information" link will include a link to the book request page rather than the book request email address. Do a title search for Athanasius Kircher a renaissance man in Torbis.
