1. Announcements & updates (25 min)
Webtrends purchase may go through soon.
Endeavor will soon have a new UNICODE release installed and available for testing.
Book Purchase Request form suggestion - A request was received from
a graduate student group to add to this form a pickup location. This met with
agreement, if the form can be modified appropriately. Dale mentioned that a
group is working on several other changes to this form; all changes will be
implemented at the same time.
Yale Portal meeting - Karen, Kalee and Julie met with Susan Bramhall
to discuss enhancements to the YUL content for the Yale Portal. Further PIC
discussion concerned using ISSNs to pull subject tracings from Orbis records
and add them to online journals as a way to improve access. Karen and Kalee
are working on this and will report back at the next meeting
Combined databases/journals search prototype - A discussion was held
concerning how to arrange and enhance the results page. To wit: repeat the search
box on the results page (with a button labeled "search again") and
make bulleted links to databases and journals, while also adding a count for
each. We will next solicit feedback on yulpub-l
Proxy server go-live - We are still waiting for the URL to proceed
with this change.
Curators meeting re: translating Front Door - Discussion was held
concerning what languages to include for versions of the front door. A general
decision was made to try as many as will reflect the Yale community, but prioritizing
their creation according to weight . Dale will work on an outline in English.
Another questions to decide is: who will do the translation (grad students?
outsourcing? staff?)
Special Catalog pages have been updated, but more tweaking is planned in
the future to distinguish special catalogs from special tracings.
2. LSF and other locations in Orbis (20 min.)
The goal of making library locations clear (especially LSF, which cannot
be visited by the general public) presents a problem in that there is limited
character space to spell out full names of libraries in ORBIS. As well, making
sure patrons know when restricted use items can only be paged at certain locations
presents some confusion. This topic was tabled for further investigation.
3. PIC thinking about possible Orbis usability testing, Front Door redesign
(30 min)
Skipped for reasons of time
4. Orbis suggestion (5 min):
Suggestion that the wording of the OPAC screen that appears when a request
has been successful be changed from this:
"Your request has been processed.
Use your browser's back button to return to the previous record."
to something like this:
"Your request has been processed.
Use your browser's back button to return to the previous record.
To track the status of your request, check Your Library Account."
The above wording was agreed upon.
5. Should we link to News
Resources page from Online
Journals and Newspapers? (10 min.)
It was agreed that a link would be added and that some rearrangement of elements
on the page would clarify their inter-relations.
