PIC Agenda
CCL Experimental Space
April 13, 2005
Attending: Dale Askey, Katie Bauer, Debbie Falvey, Julie Linden, Stephen Naron,
Karen Reardon, Andy Shimp (recorder), Tao Yang
Absent: Earl Roy, Kalee Sprague, Rick Zwies
1. Announcements
Quote received from designers for front door update. A meeting is scheduled
with them for next Wednesday at 9:30.
Julie will book the CCL classroom until the end of the year.
Good attendance reported for the PIC forum on Measuring User Behavior. The
presenters received positive feedback.
2. SFX button suggested text change
Katie thought the link name might not be meaningful to users. She also questioned
using a product name as the link name because it is possible we may not always
use the SFX product. The new v.3 of SFX has been released, and the menu structure
is different. Katie recommended asking a subgroup to look at the link name and
menu structure. PIC agreed and Karen will coordinate a subgroup with Tao, Katie,
Andy, and Dale. Katie will check about getting a participant from the Medical
Library (Rick or Daniel).
3. Drafts of revised ILL and Borrowing/Circ pages
Andy presented his proposed revisions of the front door ILL and Borrowing and
Circulation pages. The ILL page was changed to create headings for type of material
requested and to include an expectation of delivery time.

The group agreed on several additional changes:
a. Remove introductory text.
b. Change the second heading to "Request Journal Articles and Other Non-book
Materials."
c. Change the third heading to "Additional Information: Interlibrary Loan
Offices."
d. Where "interlibrary loan" is used, add "ILL" in parentheses.
Andy will make the changes and show it to Carol Jones.
The Borrowing & Circulation pages were changed to reduce text and create
section headings. Andy presented a list of FAQ questions taken from Ask Live
transcripts and other sources. Andy will work on developing answers for the questions
and distribute the FAQ to PIC. We will then send to Sue Crockford-Peters.

Andy also received a request to add "Tours" to the Workshops and
Tutorials link. The page itself could be updated and revised, including making
the tour and workshop schedule more visible. Andy will contact Emily Horning
to ask the Instruction Group to review the page. PIC will postpone discussion
of adding "Tours" to the link until tours are scheduled.
4. Standardization of subject guides
David Stern raised the question of standardizing subject guides at library web
specialists' meeting. While some questioned the desirability and feasibility
of such standardization, it was noted that standardization would potentially
enable integration of the subject guides into external interfaces (such as Sakai,
the potential replacement of the classes system). We will collect more information.
Dale will bring the issue before RSC. Julie will take the issue to the Portal
Opportunities Group.
