I. OPAC Stats
Kalee will create two kinds of Orbis statistical reports. The first type will include counts of number of searches, searches by type, percentages by day of the week and hour, etc. The second will include 100-record samples of random search strings, and search strings that resulted in ‘0’ hits. The Opac stat counts will go up on the web in a static web page. The sampling of search strings will go out in Excel spreadsheets.
II. Google on the Yale / Library Front Door

- Signed up for free institutional copy
- Only indexed once a month
- Some searches result in ads
- Google is tracking searches – Yale OK with that
- Keeping Inktomi for lower-level searches
*Given that this has been approved at the University level, PIC will replace the ht-dig search on the FD with Google. We will keep htdig for directory-specific searches (e.g. on Science Libraries' site).
III. Journal search pages
a. Search Labels:
- Title Search – ‘Title’
- Keyword in the Title – ‘Title Keyword’
- Title Search + Keyword Search – ‘Keyword Anywhere’
b. Move drop-down menu to right of search box. Put Search and Clear buttons below search box.
c. Drop ‘Any’ and ‘All’ radio buttons
d. No text above search box
e. Drop advanced search page – help tips will go on ‘no hits’ page. Bonnie will mock up change
f. No hits page – drop ‘records found’ from end of ‘no matching Online Journals, etc’ phrases
g. New gif for results page: Online Journals & Newspapers: Search Results. Name of new gif should be same as name of old gif (for easiest replacement).
IV. Yale Portal ‘Your Library Account’ information
Karen gave a demonstration of work done by the PIC Portal subgroup to generate an XML/XSL based display of books checked out to a patron, plus information about fines and fees. The channel is currently available in the Yale Portal development site, but more work remains.
