PIC Meeting

Present: Katie Bauer, Karen Reardon, Dale Askey, Tao Yang, Kalee Sprague, Rick
Zwies (minutes), Julie Linden. Out: Manon Theroux, Tim Young, Andy Shimp.
1. Announcements (5 min.)
Debbie Falvey will be the one-year PIC intern. Dale will stay on the committee
for another two years. Earl Roy will join PIC when Manon rotates off at the
end of this month.
Katie and Audrey Novak went to the SFX/ MetaLib usergroup. MetaLib 3.0, the
latest version, will be ready in September. January implementation at Yale possible.
2. ILLiad review (15 min.)
Apparently there are some things that can be changed on the ILLiad pages and
the committee recommends the following changes: color scheme should match ILL
pages on Front Door; eliminate redundant text; change background color to white.
University of Utah (Borrowing Materials) has added their own headers; we should
try to do the same. Katie will talk to Carol Jones and George Ouellette.
3. Web Week (20 min.)
What classes to teach? 2 Hours each. Two tracks? Advanced / Beginner Tracks?
We won't have formal tracks, but will note the intended audience in each course
description. There will be a mix of courses, for beginners and more advanced
web authors.
When? July - August, done by the 15th.
Whom?
How? (Registration, Reserving Classroom) - Julie will Schedule; Katie will send
yulib announcements and will take registrations
WWS (Karen's Staff) could do:
-Introduction to the Library Web Server and secure shell (People with account;
basic education. Web Page: The Library Web Server) Not 2 hours.
Creating Web Sites on the Pantheon (for folks who don't have ogma accounts)
and secure shell.
Other classes
-Why Dreamweaver? / Dreamweaver Advanced. (Dale)
-Using the Front Door and derivative FD templates (Julie)
-Usability (Katie)
-Basics of Web Design (color, layout, etc.), Accessibility Issues & Writing
for the Web - (Julie)
-Forum for Work-in-Progress Review (East Asian, Tao & possibly Beinecke)
Katie proposed having a forum in the fall to demo WebTrends and discuss other
Web assessment tools.
Action: Teachers to write up blurbs.
4. Orbis change requests review, continued (30 min.)
Kalee supplied a color corrected list. Crossed out what cannot be done.
Search: Move Quick Limits : leave them as is.
Search: Simple / Advanced --> Search / Keyword Tabs? No.
Search: Ranked Keyword search? Create a smaller scroll window for options
(first 5 showing) and hide the least used options.
Headings: More Info O.K.
Place Requests: Changed the color (Link = blue, non-link = black).
Your request Cannot be processed ? Keep as is.
NOT DISCUSSED...
5. Databases display (Katie, 20 min.)
- A way to display all databases marked as trials.
- A way to display all databases marked as SFX enabled.
- A new gif to denote databases with images, and then a way to display all databases
that are so marked.
