Migrating government information from CD-ROMs: a pilot
project
This project addressed and documented the major challenges to long-term access
to government information on CD-ROMs by migrating a sample set of government
and intergovernmental organization CD-ROMs to a more stable server environment.
Outcomes of the project include: a draft workflow for migrating government information
from CD-ROMs, an initial draft of preservation metadata requirements for these
materials, and an analysis of the project's scalability and potential for collaboration
with other institutions. The lessons learned from this project will be shared
with the depository library community and will potentially provide a basis for
a collaborative project to ensure long-term access to government and IGO CD-ROMs.
This project was funded by a 2006 Yale Library SCOPA grant.
