Finding Newspapers,
Journals and Magazines at Yale
In order to locate journals within the Yale Library collections, you need to consult
one of
the Yale Catalogs: Orbis, the union Card Catalog in Sterling Memorial Library. Yale
subscribes to
hundreds of theater studies journals, and owns back files of many journals that are not
currently
received.
- Get the citation (journal title, volume, number, year, pages)
from a periodical index, a bibliography, or any other source.
- In Orbis enter the title of the journal. Search in "Journal/Newspaper/Magazine Title".
- Find the journal you want in the list. Check the number for that journal. NOTE: for many
journals, you will need to check various records to find the edition you want.
- Note the location and call number.
- Check the SML Stack Directory
It is very important to check the volume holdings by clicking HOL.
This will list the precise location and volumes of a journal that Yale has
in its collections. Many times there will be gaps in the holdings, or current
volumes will be located in the Periodical Reading Room and back issues
will be in the SML Stacks.
