Yale University Library
Digital Preservation Committee (DPC)
Meeting Notes prepared by Bobbie Pilette
Date:† January 9, 2006, 10:30 a.m.
Present: E.C. Schroeder, David Gewirtz, Bobbie Pilette, Rebekah Irwin, Kevin Glick, Audrey Novak
Absent: Gretchen Gano,
There was a discussion surrounding Ann Greenís report on institutional repositories http://www.library.yale.edu/iac/documents/DR_Review_final_27Sept05.pdf .† In looking at the recommendations the general consensus is that the second and forth recommendations tie more directly to the DPC charge.† The second recommendation involves the development of policies, tools, workflows and good practices as it relates to digital collections and working with folks across the library and university to promote interoperability.† We would focus on the library and its collections but keeping in mind and contact with others as we develop the policies, etc. This holds true with the forth recommendation having to do with the development of the Information Architecture Plan.† However, much of the discussion focused on the key areas of management, administration and selection.† We all realized technology will continue to evolve and change but what is important are the policies and workflows.†
There was a realization that the Preservation Metadata report had not been presented and accepted to IAC.† Audrey, will get it on the agenda at IAC.
Next Meeting for Committee as a whole:
∑ February 6
Future Agenda items:
∑ Preservation metadata discussion with Matthew Beacom and Joan Swanekamp
