Date:  November 13, 2006.

 

Present: Bobbie Pilette, Audrey Novak, Kevin Glick,

Absent: Rebekah Irwin, E.C. Schroeder, David Gewirtz

 

Reviewed various documents:

The interPARES document on ‘Electron Records Preservation Strategies’ that Kevin sent out is to be repurposed for us into two separate Best Practices—Storage Management Strategies and Preservation Strategies.  It was also suggested that the two System Infrastructure documents and the Operating System document would be linked to appropriate sections of the ‘Storage Management Strategies’ document.

 

The spreadsheets on ‘Taxonomy of Threats by System Infrastructure/Functions’ was thought to best fit as a link in the ‘Storage Management Strategy’ introductory paragraph.  This would give more detail or explanation as to the why these strategies are important.  Though there is a question of whether to add economic & organizational failures to the main document. 

 

Best Practices introductory paragraph was considered fine by all at meeting.

 

The Checksum document that Kevin sent out based on the work done by the Fedora group will be referenced in the Checksum Best Practice as evidence of ongoing work in the area. 

 

Update on Premis task force:  Work with the preservation metadata group in implementing checksum migration and audit trails in connection with the Rescue Repository will provide practical experience.

 

Fedora contract—expect to wrap it up and sign the contract in December with installation of Fedora sometime in January  2007.

 

Activities to be done:

    By November 20th:

·        David:  re-work the RDF and METS best practices documents

·        Kevin:  re-work the interPARES document David:  revise the Format Registry best practice to include an update on the Global Digital Format Registry (Harvard’s Mellon Grant project)

·        All:  read all documents sent out and consider suggestions made in today’s meeting.
