Digital Preservation Committee (DPC)
Meeting Notes prepared by Bobbie Pilette
Date: February 21, 2005, 10:30
Present: David Gewirtz, , Ann Green, Bobbie Pilette, E.C. Schroeder, Audrey Novak
Absent: Kevin Glick
David presented a strawman on “trustworthiness” which prompted discussion as to how archivists use authenticity to define this where those in the cultural heritage areas may call it integrity. Yet, both come down to the idea of defining “trust”. Much discussion revolved around bringing these two ideas into a policy statement that would work for both archival collections and cultural heritage collections. The idea is to take the generalists view and what trusted digital objects and trusted digital repository is for Yale.
Authenticity in the archival definition includes among other things, integrity. As our policy statement will be covering the range of components in the archival definition of authenticity, we should, by default then, be covering authenticity though not in the strict archival sense.
David will take some key paragraphs from his strawman and from the DPC handbook’s definitions and concepts and work these into a policy statement
Bobbie will pull together the above information for David along with the rest of the pieces of the policy and send to everyone.
