Yale University Library
Digital Preservation Committee (DPC)
Meeting Notes prepared by Bobbie Pilette
Date: February 28, 2005, 10:30
Present: David Gewirtz, , Ann Green, Bobbie Pilette, Audrey Novak
Absent: Kevin Glick, E.C. Schroeder
David brought a paragraph from Allison Richard, Provost, regarding “Access” to discuss. This described access as derived from Intellectual Property and Patent rights for Yale content. However, it was pointed out that the DPC definition of access is closer to: the object is what its says it is, it is accurate and will perform as intended. The decision was to follow the DPC definition more closely and list Intellectual Property Rights as a separate component to be addressed within the policy statement. Wording in the Australian digital preservation policy was found to be very close to what we are looking for. This will be folded into the draft policy that Bobbie will send out to the committee as a whole.
Ann talked about the Preservation Metadata Task Force. This TF is being formed within the Metadata Committee. Members are: David Gewirtz, Kevin Glick, Matthew Beacom, Julie Linden and a representative from Medical, yet to be picked. The charge for the TF is being developed.
· Bobbie will send out the draft policy with parts and place holders [it was completed but not sent last week].
· Committee members will review the draft policy to: 1)make sure we are including all the components we want in the policy; and 2)to see if those components that have been addressed are at a stage where we view them as complete [wordsmithing aside].
· We will finalize the life cycle statement.
· Will add any components to the draft policy that we have skipped
· Discuss next steps
How to do Rollout?
· Who to include?
· How to process feedback?
