Date:  June 13, 2005, 10:30

Present: Audrey Novak, Bobbie Pilette, David Gewirtz

Absent:  Ann Green, Kevin Glick, E.C. Schroeder

Reviewed the calendar of meetings through the end of July.  The decision is to cancel the June 27 meeting.  The July 4 meeting is proposed for July 7 at 9a.m.

The decision was to skip the discussion on the 5th paragraph in the Digital Preservation Policy draft until the full committee was present.  We will also move forward on the glossary when the full committee is present.  These will be on the agenda for next week’s meeting.

A review of the charge to remind us of what we need to accomplish by September 2005, the end of our first year of a three year assignment, showed we are making progress.  We have a mission statement and the policy is well under way.  A discussion of what we meant with regards to a “roadmap to a digital preservation program” lead us to decide that creation of a digital preservation “decision tree” which would guide anyone interested in preserving digital resources in what they would need to consider and then do.  This will be promulgated via training and education and become part of the web site for digital preservation.  Part of this discussion was how do we answer this question right now and if long-term preservation is the goal do we recommend the Rescue Repository?  And what is the difference between the Rescue Repository and a more robust repository?  The levels of metadata and access?  Also brought up was the question of where does digital preservation live?  Does it make sense for the Preservation Dept to coordinate this?  If so, which unit? RaMP? And if that’s the case, we may want to bring in the Head of RaMP, David Walls, as we start to formulate our standards and best practices.

ü      Cttee members will continue to work on terms for the glossary

Next Meeting (June 20th):
