Yale University Library
Digital Preservation Committee (DPC)
Meeting Notes prepared by Bobbie Pilette
Date: June 5,2006, 2:30
Present: Bobbie Pilette, Rebekah Irwin, David Gewirtz, Kevin Glick, E.C. Schroeder
Absent: Audrey Novak
Rebekah gave a brief update of the PREMIS task force. They’ve identified three model projects—images from University Art Gallery’s digital stills, data sets from Social Sciences, and texts from the scanned books done for RaMP’s paper surrogates. Appropriate PREMIS elements will be used and an instance of Fedora will be the basis with the RDF as the container for ingest.
David & Kevin are going to the JSDL meeting next week. David, Kevin & Audrey are attending the Fedora Users Group meeting in Charlottesville, VA the following week. It appears that with the number of meetings the month of June that the next meeting for the committee as a whole will be July.
E.C. did bring a draft on the costs of preservation for the committee to review and provide feedback on. Also included was a bibliography of sites with related information. The committee is to read and get back to E.C. via email regarding the document.
Discussion on Training Courses
The DCC is offering a one-day training course on digital preservation and the question was whether something like this would be useful here and how could we do it. Similarly, something on PREMIS was discussed. The option is to structure it so that folks outside of Yale would be able to come and help offset the cost of bringing in the trainers. This may be something to pursue.
· Each team will continue to work on their respective tasks posting via email documents for comments by the committee as a whole.
Next Meeting for committee as a whole:
· Tentatively July 6, place to be determined.
