Yale University Library

Digital Preservation Committee (DPC)

Meeting Notes prepared by Bobbie Pilette

Date:  August 3, 2006, 1:00 p.m.

Present: Bobbie Pilette, Kevin Glick, Audrey Novak, Rebekah Irwin, David Gewirtz

Absent:  E.C. Schroeder

Kevin consulted with Ron Jantz regarding the Fedora Preservation Services Working Group and it was agreed that DPC would send one of the co-chairs, Audrey Novak, as the representative to the Working Groups meeting on August 10.  The DPC as a full committee would meet informally with the Working Group at the end of the day.  Kevin will confirm the time and place of the informal gathering.  The main topic for the informal gathering will be to establish Yale’s level of involvement with the Working Group.

We then proceeded to discuss the very rough draft of the administrative plan.  In general it was felt the new approach of identifying major research institutions with digital programs and briefly describing their set-up, then going on to make a recommendation for Yale’s set up and what is needed in terms of personnel will work.  However, much work is still needed.  Monday’s meeting will be held if enough progress is made on the document to reflect the discussions.

David Gewirtz discussed his spreadsheet depicting the Service Oriented Architecture as laid out by DLF and OAIS.  Basically it pointed out where the work needs to be done to define the services that have been identified under each.
