Present: Audrey Novak, Bobbie Pilette, Kevin Glick, E.C. Schroeder, Rebekah Irwin, Gretchen Gano, David Gewirtz

 

Today’s meetings agenda was to bring the two new committee members, Rebekah & Gretchen, up to speed with a review of how we are approaching best practices.  Audrey reviewed our thought processes in coming up with a “Use Case” approach for developing the best practices.  During the review process it was pointed out that we were missing a “case”, that of the 3rd party trusted repository which was named the “Null Case”. Rebekah & Gretchen each agreed to work with someone on a “Use Case” and David agreed to take on the Null Case. 

 

Our “Use Case” scenarios focus on the preservation portion of the lifecycle.  We are using it to raise the preservation issues associated with the variety of materials.  It is a means of gathering information and not a structure for presenting the best practices.  The means of presentation will be worked out later.

 

Further discussion pointed out that the Digital Preservation Policy covers only library collections.  Other items, such as faculty collections, only come under the policy if they become part of the library collection and that may happen in a variety of ways; two examples being, selection by subject specialist or gift. 

 

The Scopa Forum for Sept 16th at 12:30 is to be on digital preservation.  A brief discussion resulted in the following outline for the presentation:
