Digital Production and Integration Program (DPIP)
Production and Content Integration Working Group
Minutes of May 30, 2006 Meeting
10:00 - 11:00, Room 409 SML

Present: Katie Bauer, Matthew Beacom, Tracy Bergstrom, John Gallagher, Rebekah Irwin, Brian Kupiec, Fred Martz, Tobin Nellhaus, George Ouellette, Karen Reardon, Jen Weintraub

At this meeting, Fred went around the table and everyone present discussed their concerns with the report and stated whether they could support it or not.  The report will be sent to LMT and discussed Tuesday June 6.

Tobin had a few comments about the phrase concerning “sacrificing” traditional library services (which he felt to be a bit aggressive) and also on the part of the document where we discussed the structure of the DPIP Core, Virtual, and Partner elements.  We decided to call them all “elements” and to refer to individuals consistently as “participants” to lessen the confusion.  Tobin described his worry that we were basically asking LMT to reallocate collections funds and how badly that would play at LMC.

Brian had a few comments about the idea of “independent” digital initiatives (changed to “unrelated”) and also about the six key problems that “inhibit the development” of a digitization program.  Brian felt, and it was agreed, that these problems are not inhibitors, but rather, the result of a lack of a digitization program.

George:  no comments.

Tracy:  wanted clarity that DPIP will concentrate on library collections primarily.

John G:  no comments, liked the report.

Matthew Beacom:  has sent detailed written comments.

Rebekah:  1.2 Peer Institution programs:  add an introductory sentence to help us understand the scope of this section.

We also discussed a bit of information that could clarify the concept of services to students and faculty in the report (sections 2.2 and 3.3).

It was a productive meeting.  Fred will send the FINAL VERSION of the report out.

Next meeting:  Tuesday, 6/13/06
