Digital Production and Integration Program (DPIP)
Production and Content Integration Working Group
July 25, 2006 Update (No Meeting)
We expect to present the DPIP final report to LMC in August and to receive further confirmation of our plans at that time.
In the meantime several activities on the DPIP agenda are progressing well.
-- Planning for the e-reserves prototype is advancing well with four libraries participating (SSL, Div, Med, Arts) and workflow details largely determined. RIS has agreed to do the scanning and copyright clearance work for items that are not already available via library e-resources.
-- The project to catalog and ingest 6000 Hellenic Studies slides is successfully completed.
-- The Classics Department slide collection project is under way and DPIP has received its first income from the project ($2012) -- a significant milestone, even though a modest sum.
-- Four vendors have submitted responses to the RFP for the digital conversion of 8000 pages of the Yale Daily News. David Walls is project manager for this effort, with DPIP serving as technical resource partner and providing assistance with review of proposals, user interface development, and usability testing.
-- Ann Okerson is in the process of forming committees that will discuss digital selection policy and identify collections to be digitized, as advocated in the DPIP report. One important change is that the groups will report directly to Ann rather than to CDC. The first committee will develop criteria that make collections suitable or useful candidates for digitization; Jen Weintraub and Karen Reardon will represent DPIP on this group.
-- DPIP core staff met with Bobbie Pilette and David Walls last week to discuss possible alliances between DPIP and Preservation. One topic of interest was the provision of access to digitized content generated through YUL's ongoing preservation reformatting process. David Walls will speak about various Preservation activities related to DPIP work at a future DPIP meeting.
-- Katherine Haskins will be joining the DPIP working group as leader of the IDIR program (Integrated Digital Image Resources).
