Definition:

The purpose of the Digital Production and Integration Program is to plan, coordinate, and streamline digitization activities in collaboration with numerous library and university units.  DPIP’s primary goal is to satisfy important unmet needs.  DPIP will develop and disseminate the skills and capabilities necessary to build digital collections of enduring research value and hopes to serve as a catalyst for increased concentration on digital infrastructure throughout the library.  DPIP consists of three closely intertwined core services: 1) assessment and usability, 2) digital consulting and referral, 3) digital production, outsourcing, and project management.  DPIP is not an instrument for exerting unwelcome centralized control over any individual or group; it strives to serve as a linking agent among existing units wherever possible.  DPIP will offer continuity in production services, consistent application of standards and best practices, and a clear pathway for the creation of digital resources.  The DPIP Advisory Working Group will continue and build upon the work of the DPIP Production and Content Integration Working Group, which developed the DPIP proposal and launched DPIP between October 2005 and September 2006.
