Faculty guidelines for placing materials on e-reserve

DRAFT – For internal use only

1. What are the deadlines for submission of e-reserve material?

Materials will be accepted up to 2 weeks before the beginning of the semester.

2. How many items can I place on e-reserves?

2a. Is there a limit on how many items I can request for digitization?

During the pilot project there will be no limit to the amount of items that can be submitted.

3. How much of a publication can be used for e-reserves?

One articles from a single journal issue.

One Chapters from a single book.

Two poems from a single anthology.

4. Will the library put audio or video on reserve?

Not during the pilot project. Any need for audio or video should be referred to CMI.

5. How can I use an articles in a currently licensed e-journal?

If an item can be accessed via a licensed e-journal a persistent link to that item should be used.

6. What materials can be placed on e-reserves?

Any item that the library owns or licenses.

7. What materials cannot be placed on e-reserves?

Any material that the library does not own or license.

The need for audio or video material will be referred to CMI.

8. Can I use an item for multiple semesters?

Use for multiple semesters will require copyright clearance.

9. What happens to my files when the semester is over?

All links will be removed from the course site and the material will no longer be available.

10. Who is responsible for obtaining copyright clearance and payment?

Fair use will be implied for all pilot courses.

11. Who provides the material in electronic format?

Faculty will be required to provide citations for each item. The library will provide links to material already in electronic format or digitize items in print.

12. How are my items protected from unauthorized viewing?

A valid Yale NetId will be required to access items through the course on Sakai.
