The International Digital Projects team, formerly part of Electronic Collections, works on new and existing digital collections projects involving digitization, especially of materials printed in non-Roman scripts, and provides technical support to collaborative international projects.
Our current projects include:
- AMEEL: Take a look. View some of the design and OCR involved in AMEEL.
- Yale-SOAS Islamic Manuscript Gallery: This is a joint project funded by NEH-JISC to build a virtual manuscript reading room where scholars can view important manuscripts selected from our libraries and have access to full text research materials such as manuscript catalogs and dictionaries.

- Gateway to Gazettes: The Department of Education is funding this project which will digitize two valuable resources, the gazettes of independent Syria and British Mandate Palestine for the period 1919-48. These are documents of record in which governments publish their laws and regulations, comprising bills, acts, regulations, decrees, and the like. Read the press release. View the project web site.
- Arcadia Digitization Project: This is one of four special collections being digitized. Read the Arcadia announcement. Our participation is focused in three areas:
–the Joel Sumner Smith 18-19th century founding collection of books on Slavic Studies, mainly in older versions of Cyrillic languages. We are managing the scanning, processing, and OCR conversion of over 5,000 books and serials catalogued by Sumner Smith in 1896.
–the Islamic Fundamentalist tapes: two new staff members have joined our team to listen to and describe the contents of 1,400 Islamic Fundamentalist audio tapes, including composing and proofreading the descriptions in Arabic and English.
–the Cuban broadcast tapes: our student team listens to and describes the contents of 600 tapes of the Cuban broadcast "Al cantío de un gallo", and will compose descriptions in Spanish and English.
