Borrow Direct in 3 easy steps:
1. Sign in to Borrow Direct using your netID and password.
2. Find the book(s) you'd like.
3. Request that they be delivered to a Yale pickup location.
Detailed information:
1. Click a Connect to Borrow Direct link and sign in on the standard Yale Central Authentication Service page. Help is available. After you sign in, you will be directed to a page that confirms your identity. From this page, click the "Continue" button to access the Borrow Direct system.
2. Search the combined catalogs of Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Penn, Princeton and Yale using the Borrow Direct search box.
3. When you request a book, you must select the location where you'd like to pick up the book when it arrives. You may choose from Bass, Divinity, Engineering, Kline Science, Cushing Whitney Medical or Social Science Libraries. Your book will be held for up to 10 days at the pickup location you select.
4. If your Yale library account is blocked for any reason, you will not be able to access Borrow Direct. Please contact the Library Privileges office at 203-432-7189 or smlcirc@yale.edu if you have questions about account blocks.
Changes to Borrow Direct for the 2010-2011 academic year:
Borrow Direct books charged to your Yale Library Account
Borrow Direct books will now be checked out to you like other Yale-owned library material. You can see what you have checked out in your Orbis account and will also receive all notices (hold, recall, overdue) to your Yale email address. It is important to keep your checkout receipt to show to the guard when exiting Sterling Memorial or Bass libraries.
Please note that Borrow Direct books are subject to the same fines and fees as Yale-owned material.
Renewal option available
You may now choose to renew your Borrow Direct book once after the 6-week loan period. The renewal allows you to keep the book for an additional 6-week period. After this time, the book must be returned. Note that you must log-in to your Orbis account and renew the book if you wish to keep it, just as you would with a book from a Yale library.
Improved requesting for multi-volumes
If you are requesting several volumes from a multi-volume set, you may now select up to 5 volumes with one request instead of submitting multiple requests as was required in the past. Specify the volume number(s) in the note field before clicking the Request button.
Items available for pickup for 10 days
Your book will be held at your designated Yale pickup location for 10 days. After 10 days, the book will be returned to the lending library automatically.
Special note for Fall of 2010
While all new searches and requests must be made in the new Borrow Direct system, linked above, access to your borrowing history and older loans made under the older Borrow Direct system are still available by using this login link. Note: the old Borrow Direct system will only be available until Friday, October 23, 2010.
If you have questions or comments, please send e-mail to borrowdirect@yale.edu or call 203-432-8968.
