How to Find Journal Articles

Step Four: Search Strategies

Think of words that describe your topic. Pick these keywords carefully and don't forget to use synonyms.

Most databases will allow you to combine keywords using Boolean operators such as AND, OR, and NOT.

  • jazz and new orleans
  • shakespeare and gender
  • automobiles or cars
  • michelangelo not architecture

Use phrases to describe your topic

  • chinese painting
  • political satire
  • spanish civil war

Search more than one database. There will be some overlap, but you might find new articles.
