How to Find Journal Articles

Step Five: Locate the Text
Through Orbis

The Holdings information for a specific location includes the following:

  • Notes tells you which issues are still unbound and found where the "current issues" statement places them (in this example, in the Sterling Periodical Room, Section 16).
  • LIBRARY HAS tells you what issues have been bound into hard cover volumes. These volumes are shelved where their LOCATION and CALL NUMBER put them (in this example, in the annex off the Franke Periodical Reading Room).

Journals in the Periodical Reading Room

Fewer than 100 journal titles shelve in the Franke Periodical Room annex, but they are Sterling's most heavily used titles. Most bound volumes of journals shelve in the Sterling stacks arranged by call number and are located using the Sterling Stack Directory, as in the following example which shelves on Floor 4M:

Journal of Military History

For titles which don't shelve in Sterling, first check the map of Library Locations to see where on campus the library's located.
