How to Find Journal Articles

Step Four: Locate the Text
Online full-text

  • Online full-text is available in many disciplines
  • Coverage varies widely by journal title
  • Accessing online full-text:
    • From some databases, look for the term Yale Links or the Yale Links Logo icon. Click on it, and a menu will open in a new browser window with options for the citation. The citation will be displayed first, and then a link for full text (if available). Click on the full text link, and Yale Links will get you either to the article or as close as it can to the article (some publishers only let us link to the journal level, not to the specific article).
    • Some electronic indexes offer connections from the citation directly to the article. (These links are not always as accurate as the links from Yale Links.)
    • Some journals are available through aggregated collections (JSTOR, Project Muse, or Academic Press's IDEAL)
    • Some individual journals offer a portion of their contents full-text through their own web site.
      • Some charge for this and some don't
      • The best way to identify full-text availability is rarely through the journal's own website.
